Fiber is good for you!

Last night after Stitch and Bitch, I started playing with the roving that I mail ordered a month or two ago. 'But Sharon,' I can hear you saying. 'You don't spin, nor do you intent to learn to spin in the near future. Whatever will you do with all that roving?' I turned it into these! Dreadlocks! Felted wool dreadlocks!
When I had real dreadlocks, I made a few purple ones out of that acrylic hair that you can buy in a bag for 99 cents at your local ethnic beauty supply store. They were formed pretty much the same way real dreads are (Backcomb the hell out of them, basically.). Then they are set by twisting them and applying the heat of a hairdryer to melt the fibers a bit. I just tied them into the root of my existing dreads, and they were passable as 'real' purple dreads.
But my real dreads (And the plastic purple ones) were bulky. Kind of a pain to maintain. Little hairs sticking out everywhere. I cut them off when I got my job at CES because I wanted to have more of an 'office manager' appearance. But these dreads are so much prettier! Dainty. Consistent. Colorful! Fun! I can't wait to get them into my hair. My boss' daughter is going to braid them into my real hair sometime before Necronomicon. I took lots of photos while I was making them, and will do the same for the installation. Maybe someday I'll post a tutorial on the subject.
