Idyllic Chick

As you know from previous posts, C&I recently purchased a new vehicle. This acquisition made us a three car family. Practically a fleet! There’s no reason for us to keep up insurance, registration, and maintenance on both of the older cars, so one of them had to go. My beloved Sheena, being the older and more uncomfortable of the two, was chosen to be the one to participate in the fiery ritual of carousel.

I had Sheena for more than six years. The first time I drove her, Phil had gone with me to the used car lot to take a look at this cute little sportscar that I thought I might like. I had never driven such a small, speedy car before, but as soon as I was going fast enough to shift into second gear, I knew this little darlin’ was for me. She was cute and fast and practically screamed, ‘I’m not having children!’ Settling down into her seat make me feel hugged and oh so powerful all at once. I paid the salesman, and took her home.

Sheena was always been more than mere transportation to me. We had many ups (Her cool new $30 paint job a few years ago) and downs (Tire blow-outs and a leaky sunroof) over the years, but she was always reliable. She took me to Atlanta to see Rob, Port St. Lucie to see my brother, Fort Lauderdale to see Ozzy, and Tampa to see Carl. She was my independence, my freedom. We were a team. I love that car.

Yesterday she was signed over to my co-worker, Alan. He’s a mechanic, and I couldn’t be happier about that. He will fix her up a bit, remove her 'I :heart: pussy' sticker, make her a little more pretty, and probably sell her in a few months or a year or so. That’s the way it goes, I suppose. I’m happy that I didn’t have to really advertise her sale, and didn’t have to dicker over the price. But I’m sad, too. I will miss that little car. My Sheena.
