Coolest. Shoes. Evah!
How have I lived my life so far, believing that I was happy and fulfilled, without these shoes?! Those are sequins, people. SEQUINS! $2.50 at the thrift store. =)
Am I still in Florida?

Walkin' shoes
Well, not walkin' shoes, but travelin' shoes. Chris and I have made the decision to switch our trip to Megacon for a trip to Savannah - over St. Patrick's Day weekend! Oh, Sean, I will miss you dearly. But my chances of getting drunk with you and kissing you on the cheek were slim. Voltaire, will I ever get you to autograph my boob? Not on February 16th I won't. But we shall meet again, I promise. Perhaps in Jacksonville some day.
This change of plans was pretty much a last minute decision for us, considering hordes of people go to Savannah for St. Pat's every year, and reserve their hotel rooms many, many months in advance. We were able to snag a room at a B&B just across Forsyth park from Chris' dad's home. And it's one of the less expensive B&B's in town. Guaranteed parking! Which is worth a mint since that whole area is used for the parade staging area on St. Patrick's day.
I can't say enough good things about Savannah. I'm really looking forward to this trip. I feel so relaxed there. It's a true vacation spot for me.
---------------------
Happy Robbie Burns' Day! Chris made sausage and mash for dinner tonight, as decent haggis is a bit too hard to come by in Florida. The gravy he made had three ingredients: Sausage, flour, and Guinness! Ok, a bit of honey in there, too, but no milk, no stock, just meat and booze. Delicious!
Looking back at my journal from our honeymoon trip to Scotland, C&I didn't spend much time in Dumfries, the home and place of interment of Robbie Burns. We had lunch, got lost, and moved on to New Abbey. So here's a picture of one of the handful of abbeys in New Abbey instead of a photo of something poet related:

My mum-in-law is a robot
Although we thought he was done growing three months ago, we realized last week that Schroeder needed a new collar. A few months ago Rick was kind enough to give us a brand new one that never fit Ichabod, so I pulled it out and adjusted it to fit the puppy. It's all black, so it blends into his fur. I might get some screw on spikes to put on it later. We'll see. Anyhoo, his older collar is so cute I hated to take it off of him. It's a bright red tartan plaid that I realized would go nicely with many of my t-shirts outfits. As I was telling Chris, 'I love this collar. It's so pretty and happy!', I was raising it to my neck. Yep! Fits perfectly! New collar for Schroeder, new collar for Sharon!

Finit!
Le Rogue, she est finit! She could use another good blocking now that the seams are all done up. I like it very much! The fit came out pretty much how I wanted it to. I should have shortened the sleeves a half an inch or so, but no worries there. The twisted stitch hem gives the sweater a very finished look, and I adore the kangaroo pocket. I hope it's chilly enough for me to wear it to the medieval faire next week!Details
Pattern: Rogue
Began: August 17, 2006
Finished: January 20, 2007
It takes me a while to knit up a sweater, ok?! Now I'm off to fix the twist in the ruffle of the Hot Tamale, so that I can get knitting on that this weekend. Maybe it won't be on the needles quite as long as this sweater was!

China dolls
When I was young I had a doll collection. I didn't take much interest in it. Dolls were gifted to me and I put them in a little display case. Even though most were from other countries, they were just normal, nothing-special dolls. Which is why they never intrigued me. If I had dolls like these, I would have most likely continued collecting. (Via BoingBoing)

Oh the Rogue, she do blocketh
I am pleased as punch to say that this morning I wove in ends, grafted the hood, and started blocking Rogue. Eeep! I had no idea how to work the grafting on the top of the hood: reversed stockinette background with crossing cables. I think I would have ended up paying someone to do it for me if it weren't for PumpkinMama. This file walked me through the process step by step. So where are the photos of the beautifully grafted Rogue hood? Not here. While the directions were perfect, my grafting is not. Somehow I ended up with an extra stitch on one needle, even though both needles had the proper 38 stitches when I began. I guess I accidentally looped a strand around one needed as I was grafting and grafted the thing in like a stitch. Poo. So the grafting job isn't very good. Not horrible, but very amateurish. Which is appropriate since I'm an amateur, but it ain't nothin to show off here. I started to ungraft and start again, but I then realized that I would most likely make a bigger mess out of than I started with. I'll be showing off the goods when she is dry and seamed up, but no close ups of the hood, even on its good side.

Who am I kidding?
What the hell made me think that after working a 10 hour day I would be in the frame of mind to graft cabling for the first time in my life? Someone smack me next time. So no further progress on Rogue last night, nor will there be any tonight. My new plan is to it up on Sunday morning. You can bet there'll be photos!
Since there is no more knitting to do on the sweater, I was able to begin a new project: the second baby hat for Chris' foot. Once again, what made me think that it was a good idea to knit socks for a man's size 13 foot on size one needles? Someone smack me next time! The toe up method that I'm using (The Easy Toe from Sensational Knitted Socks) for the first time requires a provisional cast on, then you pull off the cast on thread and slide your empty needle into the open stitches. The teeny tiny open stitches. At least I'm not using black yarn.

Draggin
Good gawd, will this week never end? Over the wacked-up time schedule of the holidays, I've switched my day off from Friday to Monday (It'll switch back after eight weeks, and will continue to go back and forth.). Is that why it feels like I've worked 24 days in a row? Even though today is only my third day of work this week? Blah. I'm so looking forward to the weekend.
Or maybe I feel this way because when I'm not at work, I'm Rogue obsessed. My house is a wreck, the cat boxes are disgusting, my car desperately needs oil, and I've done nothing but knit in my time at home. I've worked very hard this week to finish Rogue's sleeves, accomplishing the task last night along with cleaning the cat boxes. No more knitting on it! Tonight I'll seam the hood using lots of help from on-line sources, as I've never grafted cabling before. This should be interesting. Then I'll weave in the few ends that remain (I try to do that as I go, because I just dread it.) and maybe *maybe* even block it tonight. We'll see.
As Rogue dries, I'll already be swatching for Hot Tamale! I'm *very* excited about this skirt. Jodi Green is one of my heros. I love her designs. And her hair. And her tattoos. Fine, I'll take the whole package. I've wanted to start this skirt for a few months, but couldn't find appropriate yarn in an affordable price range. But last weekend I picked up six skeins of black King Tut cotton for $5 each at AC Moore in Jacksonville. Half price! I was then able to find the same in red on-line for $7 or so per skein. It arrived this week and is a gorgeous shade of deeper red. I doubt if I'll add the yellow highlights. It's embroidered on, so I can always add it as an after-thought, but I think it will look fine without it. This skirt is going to be soooo hawt! I must remember to actually measure myself so that I make the correct size.
