Lime N Violet bear the wrath of my recent cynicism
How in the world do these two ladies fit an entire fifteen minutes of knitting content into a measly hour and forty fucking minutes of podcast? Oh... Was that the outloud voice? I'll just edit that out later.

The poncho
So. I've been thinking. Obviously I'm not liking what I see happening with the poncho. If I liked it, I'd be knitting on it. I think that once it's blocked, it'll stretch out into bigger holes, and I think it will make this variegated yarn look like shit. This is *gorgeous* yarn, People. It should never be made to look like shit. The pattern was written for a much thicker yarn, and I just don't have the mad lace skilz to pull off the required gauge change. So. Back to square one.
Actually square two. Square one was the yarn. I've still got that. But I think it will live up to it's beautiful palette if the lace pattern has more solid areas. I'm looking at Kiri now. See how pretty it looks in a variegated yarn?
It's a triangular shawl, so it won't be hard to convert it to a poncho pattern, especially since the even rows are mostly purl stitches. The pattern even begins with a nice little garter stitch collar. It'll take some fiddling, but I can do it. I'll go back and forth for a while, just as the pattern calls for, then just start working in the round. I'll have to mimic the back 'seam' down the front as well, but that shouldn't take a whole lot of finagling. I hope.
Geez, what the hell am I getting myself into? Does someone need to make me realize that this is crazy talk? Bueller?
Oh! Another similar option is the Candle Flame pattern. I think I have a pretty good idea about how to add in pattern repeats from the 536 times I went back to the original poncho pattern, so the Candle Flame might be a little easier on me. We'll see! Oh yes we will!

Cleaning House
It's amazing how much cleaning, organizing, MP3 downloading, and laundry one can accomplish when faced with other more important tasks that one just does not want to do. At all.
Too cool for coasters
I must. Find. These.

Sockowsa!

I love this sock! I finished it on Monday night (Hee!) which makes it a just-over-one-week sock. A record for me! Shows you how much I love it, eh? I'm now obsessd with finished the second one (I started it last night), but I have many other projects to work on this weekend. I love the magic toe up cast on! So easy! Even though I'd usually rather decrease than increase, I don't mind doing the M1s in this at all. I love the Widdershins heel flap! It's like magic because there is no picking up of the stitches along the side of the heel flap. As you work the heel flap back and forth, you just k2tog with a stitch from the gusset.

WVBeth asked what yarn I'm using. It's Great Adirondack's Soxie in the Coconut Joe colorway. Available at our favorite not-so-local yarn store! I lovelovelove this yarn! It spiraled really well for me on my first sock, and I'm hoping I get a spiral in the opposite direction on the second.

We have arrived!
We have arrived! OMG our B&B is sooo cool! The photos online bring out teh tacky, but it's a beautiful house. I can't wait to get back there and knit. Already hit the yarn store. More on that upon our return.

So I thought about offering to drive to Savannah, but then I realized... THE KNITTING! Can't stop the knitting, Mal.

See ya!
In just a couple of hours C&I will be off to Savannah for the weekend. C's dad, Dave, lives there, and it's always fun to go visit. Dave has lived there for quite a while, and has many friends, most of them in the pub business. It's so relaxing to walk around the parks, stop for a beer and a bite, then walk around a little more. I'll definitely be checking out a yarn shop or two, and will try to remember to blog from the road. I hope the weather holds out for us.
Savannah is a hot spot for St. Patrick's Day. Apparently it kind of turns into a New-Orleans-at-Mardi-Gras type of town for the weekend, what with no laws against open container alcoholic beverages. Chris' dad lives on the second story of an old house at the edge of Forsyth Park. His balcony overlooks the parade route, so we'll have prime seats the whole weekend long.
We'll be staying at Park Avenue Manor , across the park from Dave. It looks like a great mix of historic and tacky. Perfect for me! I can't wait to knit for a bit in the little garden, and in the sitting room. Free sherry and brownies are provided! I don't think I've drank sherry before, but I would venture to guess that they won't have the free sherry policy once I've stayed there for two nights!
Have a good weekend, everyone!

Sheena is a punk rocker
As you know from previous posts, C&I recently purchased a new vehicle. This acquisition made us a three car family. Practically a fleet! There’s no reason for us to keep up insurance, registration, and maintenance on both of the older cars, so one of them had to go. My beloved Sheena, being the older and more uncomfortable of the two, was chosen to be the one to participate in the fiery ritual of carousel.I had Sheena for more than six years. The first time I drove her, Phil had gone with me to the used car lot to take a look at this cute little sportscar that I thought I might like. I had never driven such a small, speedy car before, but as soon as I was going fast enough to shift into second gear, I knew this little darlin’ was for me. She was cute and fast and practically screamed, ‘I’m not having children!’ Settling down into her seat make me feel hugged and oh so powerful all at once. I paid the salesman, and took her home.
Sheena was always been more than mere transportation to me. We had many ups (Her cool new $30 paint job a few years ago) and downs (Tire blow-outs and a leaky sunroof) over the years, but she was always reliable. She took me to Atlanta to see Rob, Port St. Lucie to see my brother, Fort Lauderdale to see Ozzy, and Tampa to see Carl. She was my independence, my freedom. We were a team. I love that car.

Yesterday she was signed over to my co-worker, Alan. He’s a mechanic, and I couldn’t be happier about that. He will fix her up a bit, remove her 'I  pussy' sticker, make her a little more pretty, and probably sell her in a few months or a year or so. That’s the way it goes, I suppose. I’m happy that I didn’t have to really advertise her sale, and didn’t have to dicker over the price. But I’m sad, too. I will miss that little car. My Sheena.

Honeymoon Photos
I've realized that my second wedding anniversary is in a month and a half, and I've shared my honeymoon photos with very few people. I started uploading them to my website, but I don't even have a fifth of them posted yet. You can start looking at them here. I'll let you know when my third anniversary rolls around and I post more of them =)

Chris' First Socks are completed!

Details
Pattern: 3x1 rib, Easy toe from Sensational Knitted Socks, and a short row heel from the same book
Pattern: 3x1 rib, Easy toe from Sensational Knitted Socks, and a short row heel from the same book
Yarn: KnitPicks Essential in Burgundy and Navy
Began the first sock May 30, 2006 and finished it July 31st. Began the second sock January 11, 2007 and finished it March 10th.
My memory tells me that it took me several months to finish the first sock of this pair, but my knitting journal tells me otherwise. The second one seemed to go *so* much faster, it's hard for me to believe that it took exactly the same amount of time to knit as the first. I remember knitting and knitting on that first one. It just seemed like it would never end. Boyfriend has some pretty big feet, ya know. Which is why it took me six months to start the second sock. I was dreading it, but it ended up being a lot of fun to work on, especially once I got to the leg portion.
As for the yarn, eh. It's great boysock yarn. Heavy feeling. Kind of scratchy to work with, but Chris says they feel great on his feet. But it's superwash, and you can't beat that for boysocks.

Weekend of The Laze
I did NOTHING yesterday. I have a pretty big list of things to accomplish within the next couple of weeks, but instead of being productive I woke up, went to the couch, covered myself with puppies, and knit and watched tv all day long, with intermittent naps. It was glorious. I finally bathed around 4:00, then Chris came home from work and took me to the Outback for dinner. A huge plate of cheese fries is a wonderful way to top off a day of nothing.
When we got home from dinner I started on a new sock with some *lovely* yarn. I'm doing it toe up, so my sock will be upside down from the one in the pattern, but I think it will be pretty. I used the magic cast-on from Knitty, and am quite very pleased with it. I've been searching for an easy toe up cast on, and as per Brenda's advise, this one hits the spot. It may have turned me into a toe up gal! Now to find a happy non-short-row heel.
I'm very much enjoying working with yarn that is more luxurious than what I was using for Chris' socks (Which I finished yesterday! Yay!). I'm using size two needles, as suggested on the ball band (Or rather the websites I found that sell the yarn. The ball band doesn't have a suggested needle size.), but I'm a loose knitter, so I think the sock might be a little big. The cool thing is that I'll know this for sure before I get too far into the sock, so I won't mind ripping back and doing the cool cast-on again.
Today I'll have to catch up on things that I missed yesterday, laundry being the most important. But I'll get plenty of knitting in too, I assure you!
