Wrascaly Wrabbits

We got back from Jacksonville pretty late last night, well after darkness had fallen. Our entry into the driveway disturbed a couple of rabbits in the yard. This wasn't unusual, especially this time of the year. I <3 teh bunnies. They make me happy. What was unusual is that we disturbed a third bunny in the front yard. A three bunny night! I think that's a record. When we walked down the sidewalk towards the side door of the house I noticed that there was a small hole in the ground where the third bunny had been hanging out. Lots of dirt strewn about and such. Messy bunny! Right in the middle of where Chris had planted our new grass. Oh well. I'll fill it in in the morning.

We left to go pick the dogs up from Doggie Camp. Upon our return Third Bunny was right where she had been earlier. Digging in that hole. Bad bunneh! We knew that Monty would chase her through the swamp if he saw her, and we practically had to run her off ourselves. We got Monty on the leash and into the house with no problem. Went to bed. Slept well and good.

This morning Chris told me that the hole the bunny had been working on was now covered up. Strange. The kind of rabbits that live on our property don't even dig burroughs. They live in the swamp under bushes and piles of fallen trees and such. So there's no reason for this bunny to be digging, let alone cleaning up her work as well. Or so I thought.

Googling "rabbit hole fill" brought me few results, most of them dealing with attempts to keep ones domesticated pet rabbit from digging up ones carpet. But it did lead me to my next key word: nest. Using "cottontail nest" I found the following information: A typical cottontail nest is a shallow scrape in the ground, covered with fur and grass, often in the middle of a lawn.
Ok, this thing is right in the middle of our new little patch of grass. Looking at it from our front window it appears that the hole has been filled in with the dirt that came out of it. But this morning I walked out with my camera to spy this:

This is a bunneh nest! Third Bunny will only visit the nest at dusk and before dawn to feed the babies, then they will be out on their own in three to four weeks. Every couple of days I'll place a twig or some yarn across the nest to make sure momma is taking care of teh babyz. She should uncover the nest, feed the little ones, then cover the nest and leave for the day. While I want to see teeny tiny bunnies very much, I don't want to take the chance of Third Bunny knowing that I've been messing with her nestlings, so I'll try to control myself for at least a week. Then perhaps there will be little bunneh pictures!

A big decision

I had a big decision to make tonight. I could either play around with seeing how my new hair extensions match my natural color, or I could play with our new camera. Even though by the time the battery was charged I was working in crappy, night time, indoor lighting, the camera won. This is probably the best picture of the night. As you can see, great macro, plus an 18x optical zoom. Huzzah!

We have a winner!

There is a definite winner in the 500th Post Contest! No one went over. If you want to feel a little better about underestimating the number of piercings I have, know that my husband guessed 11. He was short by 6. Which ones he forgot about, I have no idea, but I have 17 unnatural holes in my body!

That makes TW our lucky winner! She guessed 14. TW will win a handmade gift! Lucky girl! I think I'll make her something warm and cozy that will serve her well in Chicago. TW, please step forward and take a bow.

Many thanks to everyone who played! 13 was a very popular number, and I'm considering reducing my piercings to compensate.

Wow. That was quite a vacation. One of those where you come back fully rested, yet thoroughly exhausted. It was *so* great to see friends and family. That is what our vacation is about every year. We usually do a con or a getaway for just C&me, but the drive to WV and back in May is all about sharing time (And food, and beer) with our loved ones.

I didn't take many pictures (The ones that I did are on my Flickr page. Celena, the piano is dusty, but I think her personality shines through that! There are also pics of the rocking chair that my dad made for me. The flash photos show the real color of the WV native cherry wood that he used, and the semi-blurry non-flash pics show off the workmanship of the piece.), but here are some things that happened on our vacation:

-I moved my Twittering to web/desktop only, as I was ~1000 messages over my limit of 1500 last month.
-We started shopping for a new camera.
-I completed the front and back of Chrissi's Weasley sweater, along with half of a sock and most of a dishtowel. Those probably won't go up on The Rav until later this week.
-Chris drove 2150 miles while I knitted away.
-We went to the park with the nieces and nephews and I helped them fly a kite. In the sun.
-My brother announced his upcoming marriage.
-We visited yarn stores in Savannah, Ellicott City (x2), and Fairmont, WV.
-My parents got their first DVD player.
-We hung out on Kelly and Robbie's beautiful porch in North Carolina.
-We hung out on Mike and Angie's lovely porch, also in North Carolina.
-We hung out on Will and Trish's cool porch in South Carolina.
-We hung out on the porch of my childhood in West Virginia.
-We wondered why we don't have a porch.
-Oh yeah. Florida.
-Chris' grandfather died. =(
-But we did get to see lots of Chris' family that he hasn't met for years.
-We convinced the Morrills to buy Guitar Hero.
-Someone won my contest! But I'm not saying who yet.
-I gained four pounds.

Today I will return to work as normal, refreshed and invigorated, and missing my peeps very much. But Twittering less.
