The birthday, she is a comin'.
With less than three weeks until The Great Milestone Birthday Trip (TM) to Georgia, I figured I should do some hardcore planning today. We've got a cabin booked near Helen that has a hot tub and Internet access. Yay! We'll be taking the dogs with us (Is that crazy? That is *so* crazy. Does approaching 40 make you crazy, because this idea seems to point to that fact.), so we don't want to leave the cabin for too long at a time, lest Monty devour Schroeder in one last attempt to rid the planet of the little dog's annoying existence. So I want to do a couple of quick day trips. And I want to take as many meals as we can at the cabin in order to a) save money, and b) exploit the generous offer that my Dear Husband made to cook me anything I like on the trip.
If you know me at all, you'll figure that there will be yarn involved here at some point. I actually chose our cabin site based on the fact that it is only 15 minutes away from the Twisted Skeins yarn store. Looks like their knitting circle is on Wednesday afternoons, so maybe we'll swing by there in time to hit that.
The other yarn store I'm interested in is across the border in Murphy, NC. It's called Yarn Circle, and also has a wide range of weaving and spinning supplies.
Just 30 miles up the road from the Yarn Circle in Franklin, NC, is the Scottish Tartans Museum! I am beyond excited to see this place. A prominent member of the kilt forum that I lurk on (Yes, a kilt forum. It is appropriately geeky. Shut up.) runs the museum, so I look forward to meeting him and talking about modern kilt construction. OMG, the photos are going to be awesome! Just you wait and see! I think visiting the kilt museum will heighten my desire to get a thistle tattoo. Hrm, Google search reports a tattoo shop right down the street. Maybe I'll come back with a permanent reminder of my trip!
The Tartan Museum will also make me want to cast on a pair of kilt hose for Chris. Luckily there is a yarn store just a few doors down the street! Imagine my surprise! ;)
It's been fun planning this trip because it's *my* birthday, and my 40th at that, so I don't feel the need to ask Chris things like, 'Is it ok if we go do this on our trip?'. I've just kind of planned it, and he is merrily rolling along with it, bless his heart.
Now to plan our meals!
