Saw

Rating: Krovvy
Laura
and I had been excited to see this movie since we first viewed the trailer.
I was not disappointed. Until that scene where the stupid wife wouldn't pull
the fucking trigger. But as much as they lost me in that scene, they got
me back. As Chris said, it's been hard to do a real twist at the end since
The Sixth Sense. We expect it now. I expected a twist in Saw, and I got one.
I got a pretty damn good one. If you can handle the gore, I recommend it.
OH! And I'd like to add that Carey Elwes is filling out quite nicely! ;-)

Rating: Fresh
I
liked this film quite a bit. It was nice to have a change from the same old,
same old Americanized movie. No long actions scenes here, no sex, no violence
to speak of. Just a good story about good characters. Check it out for something
a little different.

Basquiat

Rating:
Gainesville Gold
I love a good druggie movie. I never had the balls to do hard
core drugs (Thank gawd.), so I think watching druggie movies is my way of
experiencing that kind of life harmlessly from the comfort and safety of
my couch. But there weren’t enough drugs in Basquiat to consider it
a druggie film. Which is fine by me, but without showing much drug use, it
was hard to see that Basquiat was fucked up most all of the time. I now know
that this was supposed to be an art film instead of a druggie film, but
it really didn’t have much art either. The movie was enjoyable enough though,
especially when it came to picking out all of the famous people in it. And
I didn’t have to worry about it having a Hollywood ending, because it didn’t
have an ending at all. It just stopped. I guess that was an artsy thing
to do. Where as the druggie thing to do would have been to show Basquiat’s
death, instead of simply putting a blurb about it before rolling the credits.

Rosewood
|
|
Rating: Fish Fry
Rosewood is based on the true story of the razing and destruction of
a town in central Florida in 1923. If you live in the area, it’s neat to
hear Gainesville spoken of as the big city. Other town names will be familiar
to you such as Cedar Key, Chiefland, and Sumner.
I understand that the writers had to create the main characters of the
story since little records, let alone accurate ones, remain of this tragic
tale. And I liked these created characters. But as Chris said, the ending
is so Hollywood. I’ve grown to expect this from most American movies, but
not semi-documentaries. |

Donnie Darko
|
|
Rating: Fireworks
I’ve been a fan of Donnie Darko since the first time I saw it. The director’s
cut is well worth the extra time, especially if you get to see it on a big
screen. The special effects of the bleedovers were of a much higher quality
and you get to see a little more into what Donnie’s psychiatrist was thinking.
And the pumpkin scene. OH! The pumpkin scene! If you enjoy the original
film, you must see the director’s cut if only for the pumpkin scene! If
you haven’t seen this movie at all, go rent it right now.
